Chris Shambi – The ‘In house Doctor’

We caught up with Chris, our ICT guru in Mwatate Sub County Office and managed to get some words off his chest. Let’s get to know him better….shall we?

All grown up!!

First job? Just after clearing high school, I remember selling cabbage. My father was and still is an entrepreneur and I used to help him out. He used to come with lots of cabbages and potatoes and we used to go house to house selling them.

Any lessons learnt?  For sure. In anything, just do it. We sometimes take a lot of time thinking f what we would want to do and end up not even starting out. Do not shy away from whatever you are doing.

As one of the young and brilliant minds working in the County Government, what has your experience been so far? Any positives? Any points of concern?  My experience, generally, has been fair. In terms of employee relations, working with colleagues has been great. Out of 10, I would place it at a strong 8. I work with my young colleagues who we relate very well on all fronts. The remaining two is reserved for the colleagues who are still stuck in doing things the old fashioned way and are resistant to change. We call them ‘analogue.’ I am sure that will change with time though. Also, my terms of employment and salary are unsatisfactory. I am hopeful that will also change in the near future (smiles)

Well put. So, in life, who is your role model? It has to be my dad, Washington. Over the years, I have observed how he has brought us up and he challenges me to become better than him. I also love the way he loves my mother. It is unparalleled in this day and age.

On a lighter note, what is your favorite meal? I will go for Ugali, highly spiced stew and greens

Your favorite getaway spot within the County?  Lake Jipe – It is in a stress free zone with minimal telephone connectivity, away from the hustle and bustle of work life. It typically defines the meaning of getaway spot since you actually GET AWAY!!

Your dream holiday destination? Miami, Florida for one reason only…The night life.

Any hobbies? I enjoy playing Basketball, thoroughly. I was in my high school’s first team and was revered as a sleek pointguard. Currently, I play for the Wundanyi Stingers, which is part of the Coast Basketball Association League. I also enjoy watching series and outdoor fun (hiking, swimming, hanging out with friends)

Your favorite sport? Duuh….Basketball. My favorite team is the Los Angeles Clippers. Chris Paul from Clippers is my best player.

What things do you not like to do? Typing documents.

And finally, if you were on an island and could only take three things, what would you take with you? Phone, girlfriend, booze.
