Mwatate Ward

Mwatate is one of the five wards in Mwatate Sub County of Taita Taveta County, which lies in the coastal region of Kenya and located approximately 15 km  south west of Voi town and is the headquarters of Taita Taveta County. It borders Rong’e ward to the east, Chawia ward to west, Wusi Kishamba to north and Sagalla ward in Voi Sub County to the South. It is about 343 km2

Physical and Topographic Features
The Ward is divided into 2 major topographical zones. Areas along Sembe hills and lower land mostly wet areas along the stream leading to Mwatate dam and other areas being relatively dry. The main physical features in the Ward are Sembe hills, plains covered with sisal plantation, Kipusi stream and Mwatate dam. The Ward is mainly dry due to low land plains covering the bigger area of the ward.

Administrative Units

In terms of administrative units, the Ward has a total of one location and three sub-locations, namely Mwatate, Modambogho and Sembe. It has twenty nine villages headed by chiefs, sub-chiefs & village heads respectively.The overall representative of the Governor and Executive arm of the County Government is the Ward Administrator Mr. Donald Saleri, appointed by the County Public Service Board (CPSB).

The Representative of the County Assembly and legislative arm of the county government is the Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon Arresmus Mwarabu elected by the people.
